Splash Damage
To improve the usability, overal experience and to bring the player closer to the narrative part of the game. While working on DB I faced a lot of problems and challenges, the game has been developed few years ago, and what comes with it, is a lot of restrictions.
In order to do our best, I had to understand the product and the audience better. Dirty Bomb is a unique fast paced first person shooter, set in London after an explosion of a bomb. Player plays as one of the mercenaries fighting in teams for bounty. Dirty Bomb players, love the pace of the game, it's equal opportunity, which depends only on the player's skill. As a live game, with numerous social media connection to players, own test groups, product gave us a lot of opportunities to gather knowledge about the players needs.
In collaboration with game designers, we have managed to create various prototyped user journeys. We clearly knew that the current UI had a lot of flaws and bad experiences. We had to analyze current mistakes, scrap not needed elements, simplify journeys and add the functionalities such as: better progression systems, weapon modifications etc...
Thanks to knowing our audience, we were able to create personas, and test our solution. Performing usability tests both internally and externally we were able to create a better solutions which could satisfy game and players goals.
Bellow few examples of wireframes.
After several iterations and satisfying usability tests, wireframes had been locked down, the time has come to make it happen.
Setting of DB happens in a futuristic London, mercenaries often use sci-fi special abilities, art direction naturally went into bolder colors with a lot of blue treatments. To put emphasis on rarities we decided to use glows and even stronger colors.
Before playing a match, the player would be able to customise his loadout, select abilities, customize his mercenary and unlock additional content.
